2020 Tour de Big Bear Cancelled

2020 Tour de Big Bear Cancelled

The Tour de Big Bear in conjunction with the Big Bear Cycling Association has made the decision to cancel the 2020 Tour de Big Bear due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

Based on the most recent restrictions for San Bernardino County and the Governor’s recent announcements in the last couple of weeks it has become increasingly more difficult to plan our event. The overall uneasiness of the pandemic unknowns and changing guidelines/mandates, has made planning for this event a challenge to say the least. Our planning has included such topics as limiting participant numbers, minimizing the expo area, eliminating awards, reducing aid stations and limiting aid station menu items as well as eliminating some of the unique activities leading up to the actual tour.

It became apparent to all that are involved in the planning that in order to be able to host the Tour this year, all the things that people have come to love and expect from us would be compromised or eliminated. But more than anything, the possible impact on our volunteers became the most critical piece of our discussion. Because we don’t want to compromise our volunteers or compromise the event and the level of service we have been known for, it was decided to cancel this year’s Tour de Big Bear. As you can imagine, this was a VERY difficult decision.

The BBCA Board and Tour Committee want to thank you all for your support. As you may or may not know, the money raised by the Tour de Big Bear is used throughout the Valley to provide much needed funding for projects that make cycling safer and more enjoyable for both road and mountain bikers here in Big Bear. We are also able to provide support to many other non-profits throughout the Valley.

Although the Tour de Big Bear will not be held this year, Big Bear Cycling Association will honor the commitments made to both our road and trail cycling improvements and the non-profits that have been supportive of our causes throughout the years.

We understand that canceling this event is disappointing and would like to offer either a refund or a transfer to all participants that are currently signed up. Please let me know what you would like to do. I will need you to email me at BigBearCycling@gmail.com. When you email me please provide your First and Last name and your Registration number so I can either refund your entry fee or transfer you to the 2021 Tour de Big Bear.

Thank you again for your support and we are confident that we will be able to get past this and open Big Bear’s doors again next year to our cyclist friends.

In appreciation for their dedication and community support, the BBCA Board voted to donate to the following non-profit organizations that have been so supportive over the last 10 years:

Big Bear Antique Car Club
BBHS Wrestling Team
Big Bear Pilots’ Association
Big Bear Valley Community Emergency Response Team (BBV-CERT)
DOVES (on behalf of US BANK)
Kiwanis Club
Lions Club
Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake
SoCal Mountains Foundation
USARC

Sincerely,

Chris Barnes
