2022 Tour de Big Bear Weekend Weather Update

2022 Tour de Big Bear Weekend Weather Update

Big Bear has been receiving some much needed rain this past week. California has been dealing with severe drought conditions and Big Bear is no exception. We have been getting daily afternoon showers this past week which we are extremely grateful for. These monsoonal rains are typical this time of year and it looks like we are going to be expecting some weather on the day of the ride.

Our forecast for Saturday looks like we should be expecting some afternoon scattered thunderstorms, a high of 74f, winds 5-10 mph with a 50% chance of rain. Monsoonal rains in Big Bear usually roll in between 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. They can build quickly and come down hard at times. They typically don’t last very long, but we might see some areas with flash flooding and frequent lighting and possibly even hail.

The Tour de Big Bear will NOT be cancelled. We will be holding the event rain, snow, or shine. Also note that there are no refunds or transfers to next year due to inclement weather. You may however transfer to a different route if you’d like.

What to Bring:
Come prepared for the possible weather conditions that day. A rain jacket, poncho or other rain gear is suggested in the event that storms do build.

When the rain falls so does the temperature so please plan accordingly. With highs in the mid 70’s, the temperature can drop to the mid 50’s when the rains come in.

What to Do:
If you find yourself in one of these storms, find shelter. Never try to cross flooded streets or creeks. 6″ of water can sweep you off your feet and even move vehicles.

With the recent rains this past week you should also expect to see some debris on the roads. We are working closely with CalTrans and other local agencies to clear the roads as best as possible. Please be cautious when descending as you might come across some debris that has been washed onto the road.

Event Day SAG Vehicles:
SAG vehicles will be available on course in the event that a rider is in need of assistance. We also have a NON-EMERGENCY contact number for use on event day. That number is provided in the Rider Information Package available online at our website. The package will also be emailed out to all registered riders on August 2nd.

Please check road and traffic information prior to coming up to Big Bear.

We are looking forward to seeing you this weekend! Have a great ride!
